The new Mecca rises in the West

Literally 2 years ago there were rumors circulating that Paul George would decide to come home and lead the Lakers. Just last year there were rumors that the Riverside-native Kawhi Leonard would join the Lakers and lead them out of their abyss of failure.

And last night they both came home. Just not to the Lakers. Within a year Lob City transformed itself into an amazing group of players that excelled all expectations and clinched the 8th seed playoff spot in the West. And now they've replaced two of their solid mid-tier players with some of the best in the game. The Clippers went from having no apparent leader or any top 20 players to suddenly having 2.

Although the LA Lakers might have never gotten Kawhi or PG13, they exceeded expectations by bring Lebron James and Anthony Davis to the city within the span of two years. Now with the addition of Demarcus Cousins, they have 3 All-Star caliber players on their team. With the addition of players such as Danny Green and Jared Dudley, the Lakers pose a serious threat for any teams aiming for the championship trophy.

And unluckily for them, there most fierce competition is right there in Staples Center. New York was known as the Mecca of basketball for years, but today that all changes. The City of Los Angeles, with its 5 All-Star caliber players is the new Mecca. Basketball in LA going to have a couple amazing years, and I look forwards to them.

I still remember the first time I read a blog. Towards the end of freshman year in high school the college admissions bug had really bit me and I would obsessively read MIT Blogs every day. I was always excited to hear about the amazing experiences these amazing people across the country were having. Jack of All Trades or Master of One?

What does it mean to be the best at something? Einstein. Mozart. Jordan. Aristotle. These are often the most recognized names in their respective field of work, looked up to by millions every day. But out of the billions of people who have ever lived in this world, how many of us can reasonably expect to live up to their status and ability? Short answer: the vast majority can't, and won't ever. But that doesn't stop us from aspiring to be the best at whatever we pursue, including me. Inside Bill Gate's Documentary

For the first time in my life I watched a documentary for fun. The Netflix docuseries called Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates was incredibly insightful in helping understand the non-profit work that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has done and the reasons behind the work. The documentary was split into three different episodes that focused on three specific efforts that the foundation has worked on: 1) Diarrhea in third-world countries kills millions and millions of children every single year. Bill isolated the reason for this problem to be the lack of a sanitation system that many villages and cities had. His solution for it was toilets that worked without water or power combined with a sanitation system that would burn human waste and convert it into power and its byproduct of steam into drinkable water. 2) After the eradication of smallpox, most people considered polio to be the next disease that needed to be eradicated.
